SequelMed EMR & EPM Version 8.0 has arrived!
With months of anticipation we have successfully released SequelMed EMR ® and EPM ® Version 8.0. This version of our flagship EMR/EPM is based on 2011 CCHIT criteria and has all of the awaited functionality and features that our clients have asked for. The new enhancements within our application were designed to improve efficiency within the practice and provided flexible options such as
- Enhanced SequelMed EDM ® scanning module. The updates made to our scanning module allows practices to create universal sheet separates that can be used for all patients while bulk scanning into the EMR
- Clinical integration with an electronic digital pen. Physicians can use paper to complete the clinical note utilizing our digital pen technology. Once the pen is placed into the holster, the EMR will auto complete the template and clinical note within the EMR.
- Batch patient eligibility checks based on scheduled patients. The scheduler will automatically check each patient’s insurance eligibility and provide reports for patients who are not eligible for the office visit.
- Patient signature pad integration. Patients can electronically provide their signature while at the office
- Client compatible with latest versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems which includes 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 . On the server side these releases are compatible with 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows Server 2003 Standard and Enterprise editions as well as 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows Server 2008 Release 1 Standard and Enterprise editions. SequelMed EMR and EPM can also run in an ASP environment using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Client for Windows as well as Macintosh.
You can access the release notes from the help menu within the EMR and EPM to get a detailed list of all new enhancements and functionality.
Sequel Systems introduces its integrated Patient Payment Portal
We are proud to introduce our most awaited product, SequelMed’s integrated Patient Payment Portal. Patients can opt out of receiving paper statements and elect to receive them electronically while making payments online. Additional functionality includes but not limited to:
- Auto payment posting against patient account
- Patient messaging
- e-statements
We have partnered with Total Merchant Services (TMS) to provide electronic payment processing for our clients through our Patient Payment Portal. Total Merchant Services provides payment processing to over 110,000 merchant locations within the U.S.
“We went live on the Patient Portal several weeks ago and have been impressed with how user friendly it is. Our billing manager was pleasantly surprised to learn that any payments made by patients through the on line payment portion of the portal were automatically posted to patients’ accounts. We feel that the portal will improve communications with our patients and help us to work more efficiently, thereby improving patient care as well. It will also help to qualify us for meaningful use under the HITECH Act.”

Additional Implementation Project Management package offered
A successful EHR implementation is by far one of the most important aspects of utilizing an EHR effectively. As the government encourages physicians to begin implementing an Electronic Health Record sooner than later, Sequel Systems along with its partners are ready to provide best practices consulting to ensure an effective implementation. Long term usability should be the utmost concern for any physician rather than a speedy implementation. As a result, we have introduced a new optional Implementation Project Management package. This package provides additional support to client’s pre and post implementation to provide an effective implementation.
Our Implementation Project Management package includes monitoring of the application after training to ensure utilization of the software to the fullest capacity. In order to help achieve full utilization of the application account managers will schedule bi-weekly phone calls to answer questions and resolve workflow related concerns. In turn, reports will be provided to measure successful utilization of application and areas of improvement.
Longer you wait to implement EHR, Harder it will be to achieve “Meaningful Use”
In an audio podcast with 'Hospitals & Health Networks' magazine, CCHIT Chairman Dr. Mark Leavitt underscored early adoption of EHRs saying that just because the government is still working through the details doesn't mean hospitals and physician practices should delay their EHR programs. "We believe that it's risky for providers to wait until all the federal rules are final," Leavitt says. "If you wait to purchase an EHR until the rules are final and the accreditation process for certifying bodies is complete, I will put my reputation on the line and say that you will not achieve meaningful use in 2011."
This is highlighted by the Meaningful Use Workgroup’s early call for early adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE), including time and cost-saving features such as electronic transmission of permissible prescriptions and incorporation of lab-test results into EHRs. The earlier you start, the more flexibility you will have during the implementation cycle. Sound implementation strategies with emphasis on an “evolutionary” versus “revolutionary” approach—keeping in mind the diverse needs of users, whether small practices and clinics or large hospitals and organizations—will be the cornerstone of meaningful EHR adoption. Indeed, successful customer implementation experience proves that those users who started utilizing EHRs early on not only have had the luxury of implementation time on their side, but also have improved their workflows and quality of patient care in a progressively “meaningful” manner while benefiting from advances in technology along the way.
